Against All Odds
In high school, April was a 400-meter specialist and collegiate All-American at Norfolk State University. In January 2001, she had an unfortunate train accident that resulted in the amputation of her left leg below the knee.
Transforming from a self-proclaimed loner to a spokesperson for people with disabilities, Holmes uses her faith and resilience to uplift those who have acquired their disability through tragedy.
April is certainly a role model for people with disabilities. Since the April Holmes Foundation has been established, community initiatives include disability essay contest, Thanksgiving feeding for disabled, Disability Santa, hospital visits and sports clinics.

How can you help?
The need is great! Many disabled people do not have the resources available to help pay for special equipment needed to become active. Statistically they suffer in employment and educational resources needed to contribute to society. You can help open avenues that will prevent those with disabilities from being handicapped.
Helping The Mission
